Ganderbal, Aug 01 (KNO): The tranquil village of Ganie Mohallah Fraw in Central Ganderbal district is grappling with a rising concern as monkeys from the nearby forest invade, prompting local residents to abandon their homes. Over the past several years, a substantial number of these primates have infiltrated the village, seeking refuge near the power house and causing havoc in homes and fields. Despite repeated pleas from residents to trim the overgrown vegetation around the power house, authorities have yet to take action. The monkeys, now entrenched in the surrounding bushes and trees, not only damage crops but also pose a threat to fruit gardens, leaving the community in constant fear. Especially vulnerable are women, children and the elderly, who find it increasingly difficult to venture outside due to the escalating monkey population. “We can't even step outside without fear. Our children and elders are the most vulnerable,” Bilal Ahmad, a resident of Ganie Mohalla told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “We appeal to the wildlife department to take immediate action before someone gets seriously hurt.” They appealed for prompt intervention and implementing measures to control the monkey invasion, ensuring the safety and peace of this local town—(KNO)
